“CYPE” is not a precise enough specification for buying a structural analysis workflow. A building model organized by floors, a freestanding steel frame and a connection detail can lead to different programs and license requirements within the same portfolio. This research-based technical assessment compares the documented roles of CYPECAD and CYPE 3D using official sources checked on November 7, 2026; we did not independently install or test the software.

The current CYPE legal notice identifies CYPE Technologies, S.A. as the legal entity behind the website and its protected content. The product is offered under the CYPE brand; the sources reviewed do not establish a separate acquiring parent or a change of product ownership. The official release index lists 2027.a, published June 9, 2026, as its newest release entry. That is the verified release baseline here, rather than confirmation of every installed app’s latest maintenance build.
Choose the model that matches the engineering task
CYPECAD is documented for designing, analyzing and sizing structures for building and civil engineering projects. Its workflow begins with the governing standard, materials, load cases and combinations, then defines floors and groups of floors, columns and shear walls. The engineer completes the model with beams, walls, slabs, foundation elements or integrated 3D structures before analysis. Results include forces, displacements, reinforcement and element-check reports, followed by drawings and other project documents.
For a building frame, that sequence matters because the floor organization and element definitions are part of the model the engineer must review. Importing IFC or generating geometry from DXF/DWG can help establish a starting point, but the documented workflow still requires analysis settings, loads and design options. The useful procurement demonstration is one representative floor carried from input through checked reinforcement and an issued drawing, with the assumptions visible.
CYPE 3D addresses 3D structures through nodes and bars, with flat constant-thickness polygonal shells discretized into finite elements. Its product documentation covers steel, concrete, composite, aluminium and timber structural work, connection design and foundations. It can import geometry from IFC, DXF/DWG or text-based information, and exchange work with CYPECAD and CYPE Connect. The modeling route is relevant to a freestanding frame or other spatial structure, but material support on a product page does not prove that every design check is available under every national standard or license.
A new analysis method is also a license decision
The 2027.a release notes identify a new nonlinear static pushover module in CYPE 3D, with plastic hinges, a capacity curve and a seismic performance point among the documented outputs. CYPE states that the license must include both the Pushover analysis and OpenSees modules. The same release adds elastic second-order analysis accounting for P-δ and P-Δ effects in Stress/Strain, Modal and Pushover analyses, requiring OpenSees. These details are more useful than calling the whole portfolio an “advanced seismic package.”
Select those methods because the design basis requires them, then check their assumptions and configuration against the project. A hypothetical equipment-support frame might require a different demonstration from a multistory building: the engineer would need to establish support conditions, material and section definitions, load combinations and the intended treatment of geometric nonlinearity before interpreting the result. Neither a modal feature nor a pushover curve alone demonstrates suitability for a particular wind or seismic problem.
Make the handover boundary explicit
CYPECAD documents report export to formats including PDF, DOCX and HTML, drawings in DWG/DXF/PDF, and project sharing through BIMserver.center using IFC among other formats. CYPE 3D also documents BIMserver.center linkage and transfer to CYPE Connect for detailed connection work. These are concrete exchange routes to evaluate. The reviewed sources do not establish a general automation API for every task, nor do they establish that an imported coordination model already contains a complete analytical model.
For an industrial project, our CADWorx plant-design article provides related context for the plant-layout side of a structural handover. Keep that geometry and coordination task distinct from the structural model’s releases, restraints and loads; no ready-made CADWorx-to-CYPE analytical connector was verified here.
Likewise, a frame carrying piping may need loads supplied by a separate piping analysis. Our CAESAR II / Aspect Pipe Stress assessment discusses restraint-load outputs in that adjacent workflow. In a proposed CYPE project, the responsible engineers should agree coordinate axes, units, signs and load-case mapping before transferring those loads. This is a handover requirement, not a claim of an automatic interface between the products.
Buy the modules and environment you will actually use
CYPE’s professional licensing page offers perpetual licenses for use of the purchased version and subscription plans, with electronic licensing. The product documentation warns that a license can contain one or more modules and that compatible and included modules depend on the purchased product and license. CYPE one provides a route for updates and support according to the selected plan. Obtain a named module list, supported code editions, upgrade terms and support entitlement in the quote; the reviewed material does not establish a universal all-inclusive CYPE price.
These are installed Windows applications with optional BIM collaboration, rather than evidence that every analysis runs as browser-based SaaS. The official requirements FAQ states that releases from 2025.a onward require a 64-bit operating system and lists Windows 10 and 11 among compatible systems. Its general RAM guidance recommends at least 8 GB for certain listed Windows versions, but this is not a benchmark or a project-sizing guarantee. Confirm requirements for the exact 2027.a app, model size, analysis modules and licensing access before purchasing hardware. The product pages also link directly to technical support and learning resources.

Compare a structural deliverable, not a brand
Dlubal RFEM 6 is a relevant alternative for structural finite-element work. Its official overview documents members, plates, walls, shells, solids and contact elements, with additional analyses and design checks provided through add-ons. If solid or contact elements are central to the proposed model, include RFEM’s documented scope in the comparison; CYPE 3D’s reviewed page describes bars and its specified shell formulation. For a building production workflow, compare CYPECAD’s reinforcement, drawing and quantity outputs with the complete alternative package, rather than comparing solver names alone.
CYPE belongs on the shortlist when the chosen application’s model organization, code checks and deliverables match the project, and the required modules are explicitly licensed. Evidence confidence is strongest for the distinction between CYPECAD and CYPE 3D and the release-specific module dependencies; no independent accuracy, speed or usability verdict follows from this research. Ask CYPE to reproduce one agreed structural example with the exact code edition and purchased module list, then inspect the model, governing checks and final documents together before adoption.
